portfolio 1: eye candy

For a portfolio scholarship, I had to make 8 pieces that were all themed. Finding a theme that I like enough to spend time making 8 pieces focusing on is a little hard. For mine, I tried to find elements that I specifically enjoy to incorporate into my art, as well as some components to add to it to make it all conceptual.

I like to painting mainly portraits, and my favorite genre of art is surrealism. So, I wanted to combine the two. My theme is described as weird portraits with potentially unsettling imagery, with bright colors to distract from the strange content. I commonly used eyes, teeth, and hands in these pieces, along with the colors orange, purple, and green. The inspiration for the name of it, "Eye Candy" came from the elements of the theme and from the first painting seen below.

I also like to do mixed media pieces. In all of these, I used acrylic paint, colored pencils, and markers. Using multiple mediums helps me achieve the look I want for the pieces, I feel it gives them more dimension.

So, here are my 4 favorite pieces from the portfolio, hope you guys like them !!
